History
Formed in 1888 from Stevens County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Okanogan County was created on February 2, 1888 by Washington Territory from Stevens County. It was named after the Okanagan people. When Washington became a state on November 11, 1889, Okanogan continued as a county. In 1899, Okanogan County lost territory with the creation of Chelan County.
