History

Formed in 1880 from Sanpete County, Summit County and Wasatch County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Uintah County was created by Utah Territory on February 18, 1880, from Sanpete, Summit, and Wasatch counties, and was named after the Ute. In 1892, Uintah lost territory to Grand County, and in 1896, it became a county in the state of Utah. Between 1917 and 1918, Uintah lost land to the creation of Duchesne and Daggett counties, but in 1919 it gained territory back from Daggett.
