History
Founded in 1850
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Sanpete County was named after Sanpitch. The state of Deseret was dissolved in 1851, but Sanpete County continued to operate under Utah Territory. Over the following decades, Sanpete County experienced several boundary adjustments, including exchanges with Juab County, losses to the creation of Green River, Sevier, and Wasatch counties, and changes when Colorado Territory was established in 1861.
