History

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Colfax County was created on January 25, 1869, from Mora County by the New Mexico Territory. The county was named after Schuyler Colfax. In 1894, the creation of Union County reduced Colfax County's territory.
