History
Formed in 1903 from Guadalupe County and Union County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Quay County was created in 1903 from parts of Guadalupe and Union counties. In 1907, the county gained land from San Miguel and Union counties. In 1909, territory was lost to the creation of Curry County. In 1923, Quay County was temporarily renamed Washington for one day before reverting to its original name.
