History

Formed in 1868 from Do County, Ana County and Socorro County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Grant County was created in 1868 from Doña Ana and Socorro counties and was named after Ulysses S. Grant. The county lost territory to the creation of Sierra County in 1884, Luna County in 1901, and Hidalgo County in 1920.
