History
Formed in 1860 from Taos County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Mora County was formed from Taos County in 1860, initially including parts of present-day Colorado and New Mexico. In 1861, it lost territory to the creation of Colorado Territory, and over the following decades it experienced multiple boundary changes with neighboring counties including Colfax, San Miguel, Santa Fe, Union, and Harding.
