History
Founded in 1873
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
In 1879, Hand County gained territory from Burchard County, Hyde County, and Spink County in Dakota Territory, though part of the new territory reverted to Non-County Area 11. In 1889, Hand County became a county in the state of South Dakota.
