History
Formed in 1911 from Nez Perce County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Lewis County was created from Nez Perce County on March 20, 1911. It was named after Meriwether Lewis. In 1917, the legislature authorized a proposal to create Selway County from Idaho and Lewis, but the measure failed in a referendum.
