History
Founded in 1861
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Humboldt County was created by Nevada Territory from non-county area on November 25, 1861. Over its history, Humboldt County lost territory to the creation of Lander County in 1862, to Churchill County in 1869, to Lander again in 1873, and to the creation of Pershing County in 1919. In 1924, Humboldt County exchanged territory with Washoe County when Washoe changed its eastern boundary to run on public land survey lines.
