History

Formed in 1895 from Park County and Yellowstone County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Carbon County was created from Park and Yellowstone Counties by an act passed March 4, 1895, taking effect May 1, 1895. In 1913, Carbon County lost territory to the creation of Stillwater County. The county exchanged land with Yellowstone County in 1919 and gained additional territory from Yellowstone County in 1925.
