History
Formed in 1802 from Chittenden County and Franklin County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Grand Isle County was created on November 9, 1802, from parts of Chittenden and Franklin counties, but it was not fully organized until 1805. The county gained Wood's Island from Franklin County in 1822 when the town of North Hero acquired it, then lost the island to Franklin County in 1845 when the town of St. Albans gained it.
