An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Piscataquis County was created on April 30, 1838, from Somerset and Penobscot counties. The Webster-Ashburton Treaty of 1842 settled the U.S.-Canadian boundary, fixing the northern limits of Piscataquis County. Boundary adjustments with neighboring counties occurred in 1844 and 1885.
