History
Formed in 1805 from Cumberland County and York County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Oxford County was created by Massachusetts on March 4, 1805, from Cumberland and York Counties. The county gained and lost territory multiple times, including gains from Kennebec County in 1808 and 1814, and losses to Somerset County in 1819 and 1823. When Maine was separated from Massachusetts and admitted to the Union on March 15, 1820, Oxford became a Maine county.
