Tolland County was created on October 13, 1785, from Hartford and Windham counties. The county gained the town of Coventry from Windham in 1786 and the towns of Columbia and Mansfield from Windham in 1827. In 1803, Tolland lost to Hartford when the town of Marlborough was created from the towns of Colchester, Glastonbury, and Hebron.
