History

Formed in 1921 from Lincoln County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Teton County was created from Lincoln County on February 15, 1921, but initially remained attached to Lincoln County for judicial, revenue, and election purposes. The county was fully organized and detached from Lincoln County on December 2, 1922, though efforts to halt its organization were denied by the Wyoming State Supreme Court in 1923 and 1924. In 1929, Teton County gained territory from Lincoln County and part of Yellowstone National Park, placing the remainder of Yellowstone under county jurisdiction.
