History
Formed in 1888 from Johnson County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Sheridan County was created on March 9, 1888 by Wyoming Territory from Johnson County. The county was named after Philip Sheridan. Sheridan lost territory to Big Horn County in 1890, and lost more territory to Crook County in 1911 when the boundary was adjusted to run on federal land survey lines.
