History
Founded in 1714
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Hunterdon County was created on March 11, 1713/1714 from Burlington County. Over the following decades, Hunterdon lost territory to the creation of Morris County in 1739 and Mercer County in 1838–1839, while also gaining and losing land through boundary adjustments with Mercer and Somerset counties through 1845.
