History

Formed in 1881 from Maricopa County and Pinal County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Gila County was created from Maricopa and Pinal counties. It was named after the Gila River. In 1885, Gila exchanged territory with Graham County, and between 1889 and 1891 it gained additional land from Yavapai County.
